Some quick vanity mockup

Here are some quick vanity mockup, based on Michelle's design, I did today.

  1. I'm sorry to say, but I'm not digging a lot of these designs. The second one might have some potential, but otherwise I find them all pretty clunky in terms of shape.
Perhaps I'm prejudiced, but I still like the asymmetry and curves of the original design. It could be made sleeker, of course, but I think it's got the most going for it.
A lot of these feel retro, not futuristic to me. In the future we can carve and balance elegant shapes we can't usually use for furniture. I think we should stay away from sharp edges and symmetry.

  2. Thanks for the mockups! On the second from the top, I like the way it looks from the side but not from the front. There's also something I like about the fourth one down, I'm not sure it's going to be right for our film, but I like the aesthetic.
I have to disagree with Allena about the symmetry and here's why: Design-wise I like asymmetry and were this a longer film with more varying shots of the vanity I would be more open to it. But seeing as how we only see the vanity from a few views (and mostly the top half) and for such a short amount of time, I am afraid of the asymmetry not being read quick enough by the audience, or being read as bad perspective. I think that for ease of understanding we should stay symmetrical with the stand. Unless we can come up with an asymmetrical design that proves me wrong.

  3. ALSO: Huy, could you set the side holograms out about a foot from the vanity so they are not flush with the screen? Check out the last shot in the animatic to see what I mean. When we send the final to Bunny and Courtney we want it to be clear to them (they so easily get confused). Also be in touch with Nick for the most recent version of the UI (I don't think we're keeping the 3 top shapes above the vanity). Thanks!

  4. Hmm. Okay Keith, I concede to your point. It is more important that the shapes read well, given how few shots they'll be in. I definitely don't want anything to read as bad perspective!
