color script test

Hi guys, these are two versions of the revised color script in an animatic form. The timing is far from accurate, this is just to see how they look one after the other. Only the last 3 frames are different on both versions. Let me know which one works better or if they both still need work..

On this second version, the idea is to have Debra turns off the light when she gets out to increase contrast and intensity by making the room dark when Jessica is in power!

Update: I don't understand why the first few frames don't show up :( but these are the complete color scripts.

  1. These are looking nice! There's something visually that I like better in Nissa's that I'm missing here. Not sure what, maybe it was the color choices? Also their outfits need to be even darker. Good work Michelle!

  2. Hi Michelle,
Something I'd consider when doing color scripts is the story relation-significance for each color. For example, what does Purple mean versus pink or the light blues. How are you creating feelings with how often you bring up colors, what kind of importance are you creating-focal points-contrast to emphasize and enrich story moments??
This kind of design consideration needs to be evident in your color scripts.
Thanks for tackling this huge project in itself, if you have any questions to my crit, I'd be more than happy to go over it with you in person in the lab

  3. Thanks for the feedback Lauren! I was trying to keep the outfit as dark as possible while maintaining the color. I was afraid that it would look black if I make it darker, but I would try it to see.

Thanks Kevin! I had those things in mind when I was doing this colorscript. We were trying to keep it around warm and cool purple to keep it looking girly. What I had in mind was to keep it warm when Debra is in power, and cooler when Jessica is. I like the idea of having it dark at the end to push the contrast and to change the tone of the film even with only a limited palette. I also like the color Nissa used which is more orange-pink color scheme, which is closer to makeup powder color. I realize that there are a lot of possibilities for colorscript, and I think it depends on what works for the film. I am open to trying new color combination.

  4. I was looking at Nissa's board, and hers is very warm and saturated making it feels happy. Maybe I can try pushing the saturation, especially in the beginning part of the film..
