My mind has been blown away!!

Guys,

Recently, I've been picking Diana's brain with/for the fashion and make up scene and she pointed me in the direction of the movie "Devil wears Prada."

I've only gotten through the first half of it and it's seriously blowing my mind with ideas, influences, on what and how we can make this future of cosmetics be the future of cosmetics.

Women are interested in fashion because they see it as wearing art. Bags, shoes they're interested in the design and the estetic. It's something they're interested in like putting on make up.

Our thinking so far has been great from a animation illustration mindset, but we have to be thinking from a fashion mindset. In the movie, they reference countless fashion designers names.

People are wearing the art pieces. Iconography used to express individuality.
Fashion is artwork and they, our viewers of the tech, want to copy, emulate it, wear it!
Our product is the gateway for that.
Through following fashion designers like Runway on a cloud/pinterest viewing style system, women of the future can follow the current artist and wear their favorite pieces.

All of the top people of an era (public figures) follow the fashion designers of that era. People are still creating the product these people have created because these designers were so fashion forward, functional, and looked amazing.

Capture your inspiration, and channel it in your look.

Our future of cosmetics machine has to be able to draw reference for the user from classic looks of the era's. Need a classy look? try Audrey Hepburn. Sultry-Sexy? Sophia Lauren. Cute? Zoe Deshenell. This list can go on and on of different iconic looks and designs from movies, fashion, all of it in this vanity mirror tech device.

Please, watch "Devil Wears Prada."
I think it's a great resource for our project that we can use to really plus our project.

Thoughts??

Earlier designs and link to reference

Hi guys. Earlier we were talking about seeing more variation, so I'm posting some of my earlier work for this project, which has been mostly characters. I'm posting this especially for the new members who might not have seen or noticed it before.

Ideation for Jessica from week 1 and 2:

Ideation for Debra from week 1 and 2:
Note: Debra was Jessica's mom instead of older sister until week 1.5.

Line up of Debra (mom), Jessica, and babysitter from week 1.5:

Ideation for the more kiddish drawing on Debra's face:

Earlier vanity idea for the make up device:

I don't know if this helps in anyways, but if any of you feel like any of these can be usable, I will be more than happy to revisit them. Nevertheless, I will keep going with designing the environment even further with my fellow vis-dev artists in the group. I also want to share with you guys the reference that I've been looking at mostly for this project on my pinterest board: http://www.pinterest.com/miiitos/

I've been studying mostly characters both from photograph and other artists, but I would start looking at more prop and environment reference for this week. We really appreciate all the suggestions and reference materials that you've provided for us, and we will do our best to utilize them. And special thanks to Justin for the sketch earlier today. It definitely help us think of more possible ways to design the makeup device.

Have a great weekend guys!

vis dev - ending face

These are some designs for the ending face. I incorporated some of Keith's request such as the unibrow and long nose. I was trying to make it not look too much like a kid's drawing, but rather a more realistic unappealing face, so that it would make sense for Bobby to be scared and run rather than having him ask the question: "what did your sister do to you?"

UPDATE: Incorporating runny mascara and thicker brow as suggested by Kevin.

Board Update!

Here's a continuation from yesterday's post. This is what I had as of 11pm last night.
I've done more since but I thought an update was in order!

Having the screen on as she comes up instead of having her turn it on makes for a stronger silhouette as she raises the stool.

"HELLO DEBRA"

I think that Jess having her hands up the whole time as she's rising is really funny b/c it's like she's soaking in that pose.

"AHHHHHHHHH!"

"It's okay Deb.. I think you're beautiful!"

This is new ending. I showed it to the other groups and it got a laugh. The ending is two-fold: One is that she gets what she wanted from the beginning which is her sister's attention (the date ran off) and two it's an jab/insult to her sister b/c Jess is insinuating that her sister looks better NOW that her face is all messed up.

VisDev update - bedroom iso

Today I was focused on designing Jessica's bedroom working alongside Flavia with inspiration and suggestion from Kevin and Keith. We're trying to make it simple but still futuristic without making it cliche. Tomorrow, we will flesh out the individual furniture, especially the makeup station, and also the characters. We decided to focus on looking at Syd Mead for environment design and Carter Goodrich for character design.
Hey All,
I've been working in the Lab today and I've touched base with Kevin and Michelle who were also in the lab. This is what I've been working on:

So this is along the lines of what Eric was saying. Push the camera in, make it more intimate. I was thinking of making the screen circular (ie more futuristic) because Kevin drew it that way and I liked it. We don't have to go that route but I think it'll look nice in the boards.

I lowered the camera here as per Michelle's suggestion to put us more in Jessica's perspective, and made Jessica shorter so she has a harder time pushing buttons.

There's one more drawing here of Deb looking shocked with a monkey face.

This is what I have so far. The finished product will have value and cleaner line work too. I'll be back in the lab around 6 today if anyone wants to stop by and give feedback. Otherwise I'll be keeping up with the blog if you'd like to comment.
